// FAQ
Questions Worth Asking
The answers here offer a clearer understanding of how the studio works.
01
How do we know if Maison is the right studio for our project?
Answer:
We take an initial conversation with most prospective clients before committing to a formal proposal, not as a formality, but because the fit between a studio and a client matters as much as the brief itself. If we are not the right practice for what you are trying to do, we will say so and, where we can, suggest who might be. We would rather have that conversation at the beginning than discover the mismatch six months in.
02
What does a full interior design commission typically cost?
Answer:
We do not publish fee structures on the website, because the honest answer is that they vary considerably depending on scope, scale, and the complexity of the property. A budget framework is always established during Discovery, and nothing proceeds without a clear, agreed cost picture on both sides. If you have a specific budget in mind, tell us at the outset. We would rather work within a real constraint than design to a number that was never achievable.
03
How long does a project take from first conversation to completion?
Answer:
For a full residential commission, from discovery through to Installation, most projects take between fourteen and thirty months, depending on scope and the extent of structural or heritage works involved. Smaller curation-led projects can be completed in six to nine months. We do not compress timelines to accommodate urgency unless the scope genuinely allows it. A project that has been rushed tends to look like it was rushed, and that is not something we are willing to put our name to.
04
Do you work with clients who already have an architect appointed?
Answer:
Yes — and some of our most successful projects have begun this way. We are experienced working alongside architectural practices of all sizes, and we take care to establish clear boundaries of responsibility early in the process so that the collaboration between design and architecture remains coherent rather than territorial. If the relationship between architecture and interior is well-managed, the result is almost always better than either discipline working independently. We know how to make that collaboration productive.
05
Do you take on projects outside of London, Amsterdam, and New York?
Answer:
We do, selectively. Our core markets are London, Amsterdam, and New York because we have the established contractor and supplier networks in those cities to deliver work to our standard. Outside of those markets, we assess each project individually. The questions we ask are practical: can we find the right contractor? Can we oversee the site with the frequency the project requires? Is there a local procurement network we trust? If the answer to those questions is yes, we are open to the conversation.
06
What happens after the project is complete?
Answer:
We remain available. Every project is documented in full, a complete material record, specification archive, and supplier contact list, which we hold on your behalf and can provide in full at handover or at any point afterwards. For clients who want to make changes, additions, or extensions to the original project in the years following, we are easy to re-engage. Most of our work comes from clients we have worked with before, or from people they have introduced us to. That continuity matters to us, and we treat it accordingly.
